What Being a Bride Taught Me as a Photographer: Part 2

Hi friends!! Last week I shared Part One of what being a bride in June taught me as a wedding photographer, and I have just a few more things to highlight about what I learned! In case you missed part one of this series, you can read that right here… and here are the last few things I learned!

You rely SO much on your photographer
I know… obvious, right?! But y’all… your whole wedding day is such a blur. I had no concept of what time it was all day long, and being late stresses me out a ton. But I knew I could totally trust our photographer! All day long, I looked to her to orchestrate moments, such as when my dad and I had our first look, Luke and I’s first look, our huge family portraits… and I just KNOW I asked her if “we were doing okay on time” a million times all day long… ha! ???? Being able to trust her completely allowed me to be calm all day long, and we were always right on time!

Social media creates buzz
The year we were engaged, I was living with 9 other girls in the same house. (I know… crazy. But seriously, SO fun!) The night of our engagement session, everyone wanted to hear all about it and was excited to see our photographer’s sneak peeks! After our wedding, our moms shared the photos our photographer put up on Facebook, our friends commented online, and it create a big buzz about our photos! We all know how important social media is for small businesses… but you never know who will share one of your posts and turn that into an inquiry from someone who knows your bride!

It’s important what photos are shared on social media FIRST
Luke and I had a conversation about this after our honeymoon, actually. It hit both of us that often, the photos we were sharing first after a wedding day on Facebook and Instagram were NOT of the bride and groom, but rather, of details like the bouquets or rings. Once we were the bride and groom, we realized how dumb that was! The photos we saw of our wedding first were of US… which had us way more excited than if the first few photos had been over (admittedly gorgeous) details, but not the two of us on our favorite day ever! This was a great wake up call to be sure we were sharing enough photos of our couple before mixing in some fun detail shots from their day.

Photo organization is the best
Y’all… when you receive a wedding gallery with over 500 photos from your wedding, it’s the best thing EVER to have the photos organized in folders for future reference! This is also something we were already doing, but I realized just how helpful it was! We, of course, first looked through EVERY photo in order in the gallery… but later, when I needed certain photos from certain portions of the day, or our family + bridal party wanted to view and print photos, it was so helpful to have the photos organized in folders for ease of access and organization purposes.

I became a cheerleader for my photographer
I literally couldn’t wait to introduce our photographer to my bridesmaids and family on our wedding day! When I became a bride of our photographer’s brand, I felt more connected to any other bride who had her shoot her wedding… I follow our photographer more consistently on social media now… and my amazing experience as a bride with her would lead me to recommend her ANY day to another bride. Client experience is everything… and it turned just a “client” into a friend and brand ambassador forever!
