We’ve hand-written thank you notes to each of our brides since the very beginning of our business, and we believe it’s so important!!! It’s such a wonderful and personal way to finish off the experience with a couple, and plus, in this digital world, who doesn’t love getting fun mail?! 🎉Seriously, friends, writing a thank you note takes me less than 5 minutes, but it means SO much to our couples. 🙌🏻Our thank you cards have ended up on our brides’ Insta stories because they can’t believe their photographer sent THEM a thank you note! Some of our brides have kept our notes upon their fridge for MONTHS. It clearly means a lot- and it only takes a few moments to do!!! 💖💖
Here are a few tips for implementing writing thank you notes to your brides! ⤵️
1. HAVE A TEMPLATE!
It’s us, after all… so I’m sure you guys were expecting this one!! 😉Templates save TIME, guys- so we have a template for our post-wedding thank you cards!
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking- does a template make the cards less personal?! Absolutely not!!! The template just covers the stuff we don’t want to forget to communicate to EVERY couple! We leave room for a really personal note, too- in fact, the second half of our cards is totally personalized to the couple! 💕
2. SCHEDULE IT!
Let’s be honest for a second- it just plain doesn’t mean as much if your photographer sends you a thank you note 4 months after your wedding… right? 😉 Here’s how we schedule things out:
I write thank-you notes within the week after the wedding we shoot! This also give us time to add a note thanking the couple for any sort of gift of tip they gave us after their wedding! Our couples receive their images within 2 weeks of their wedding day, and as SOON as we’ve delivered their images, I pop their thank you card in the mail. Super easy! ✉️
3. ASK FOR THEIR ADDRESS AHEAD OF TIME!
It’s fun to be able to surprise a couple with this one last personal touch, so we ask for their address at a point where they will probably forget we even asked: in their Pre-Wedding Questionnaire! This way, we also have our clients’ address for when we send out albums, products, or even Christmas gifts and cards later on in the year, too! 😍
4. KEEP YOUR THANK YOU CARDS ON-BRAND!
This is not the time to buy a cute set of thank you cards from Target- although I have a small obsession with those, so I get it!! 😉 Anything that leaves your business needs to be fully branded, and your thank you notes are no exception! We had a local print shop take our C&L crest and print it in gold foil, on a set of cards, and we chose a very high-quality paper… the card literally looks + feels expensive, which elevates the experience even more!!
We also have branded return-address labels and an on-brand way to seal the cards! These details matter, so don’t skimp out on them!
5. WRITE NEATLY!
I know I’m not the only one who’s had to work to have nice handwriting!!! Ha! If you aren’t comfortable mailing out dozens of cards with your handwriting on them, you can totally pay an assistant to write them & address them for you- you can just type out exactly what you want written in them! ☺️
Otherwise, you can use a service like Handwrytten- thank me later guys because this stuff is a TIME SAVER!! Handwrytten creates cards that look like they were written by you, and mails them directly to you! Outsourcing at is best!!!! (www.handwrytten.com)
