Every photographer has certain types of sessions that capture their heart the most. For some photographers, that’s newborn sessions, and so they might choose to focus their business on documenting the first days of a newborn’s life. For another photographer, it might be senior sessions… and there are photographers out there who are absolutely KILLING it with the senior market!
For us, we’ve found that our heart is most in sessions revolving around the love of a couple. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why we’re wedding photographers– we absolutely adore getting to document the love of our sweet couples!! Primarily, we get to document engagement sessions and weddings,and we adore both of these types of shoots. However, there’s another type of session that we get to photograph every so often, and we truthfully don’t believe that couples schedule these as often as they should!
Here’s the thing. When we’re starting off our engagement sessions and coaching our couples about how their session will work, we reassure them that it is 100% normal to be nervous. In most cases, the very last time that a couple has had their photos professionally done was their senior session. Y’all, that’s a long time ago! The same sort of “gap” between photo sessions often happens after a couple gets married… often, the next time they’ll have their photos professionally done is when they have a baby!
While there’s nothing wrong with waiting until then to have your photos done again, we’re firm believers that every season of marriage deserves to be celebrated. There’s something so special about an anniversary session one year after a couple has been married… their love has deepened over the course of that year, they’ve changed throughout that first year of marriage, and your first anniversary deserves celebration. Heck, your third, seventh or eleventh anniversary also deserves celebration… and who couldn’t use updated images every now and then of just the two of you?
Friends, we want to encourage you guys today to take the time to invest in and celebrate the two of you this anniversary. Whether it’s year one or year five, anniversary sessions matter. Anniversary sessions also are a beautiful, meaningful anniversary gift for your spouse… we know for a fact that each of our past brides would freak out a bit if they found out if they were surprised with an anniversary session 😉 Just saying, dudes- this is your hint!!
