Questions From Wedding Photography Facebook Group

We recommend using a desktop computer and using Control + F or Command + F to search through these questions!

  1. How do you not get ghosted?
  2. How do you handle health insurance? Especially as someone who is starting out?
  3. How do you become indexed better on google? when I google your business you have several categories that come up under your URL (meet Caitlin & luke, etc) HoPefully this makes sense!
  4. Did you guys have to file for sales tax in Illinois? do you have customers pay sales tax on your wedding packages?
  5. I’m intrigued by your recent weekend retreat. Do you get to deduct part of your expenses from this trip as a business expense? I have only ever thought about deducting retreats that I go to put on by others, hadn’t thought about the possibility of a retreat with just me and my employees.
  6. Looking into doing a promotional video. Kind of like your “About us” video on your meet us page and got a quote from a videographer and it was SO much more expensive than I was expecting and I’m struggling to decide if there is actually return value in doing one. Thoughts? Are you glad you did yours? Was it expensive? I don’t know if the quote I got is reasonable and I just don’t’ know realistic video pricing.
  7. Could you talk a little about how you achieve the general style of your photos? Any particular go-to edits preset.. anything! Your photos look so naturally good!
  8. So, I had my first “NEGATIVE” experience from a PoTential client. They weren’t a great fit from the beginning, and tried to haggle down my prices and made me feel like I charge too much (trust me I’m On the cheAPer end), and overall were pretty Rude. After they asked for a third time for me to lower my prIces, I explained incredibly respectfully and upbeat why my prices are the way they are, and he was furious and said I need to “re-evaluate my customer experience.” This hit home for me because I’m all about the experience, and I’ve admittedly been pretty upset about this. My Question is, how do you not let Something like that weigh you down? Do you have tips on how to not take a “bad” client experience so personally?
  9. What does a typical business day look for you both? I guess I am curious about this because I am not a full-time photographer…. wondering how you fill the 9-5 day or is it not 9-5?
  10. If you had to start all over what advertising method would you start with?
  11. On the Showit contact form, is there a way to make sure the email address is valid before they can submit the form. I just had an inquiry where the bride put her last name in the email field, so when I tried to respond I couldn’t.
  12. Do you announce that you’re raising your prices? If so how?
  13. I saw Luke mention that you shoot with the 35mm most of the time on the wedding day. Could you go into the lenses you use throughout the day in some general scenarios? Family/wedding party portraits, detail shots, ceremony, reception
  14. Thinking about switching to mainly prime lenses and considering selling my 24-70. Do you have recommendations on where to sell used equipment that is still in good working condition?
  15. How/where do you store all of your photos? Do you guys keep files on physical hard drives/memory cards post wedding or do you use Google drive/some other online storage?
  16. So I’m slowly getting into the photography game and just recently realized when I edit photos on my computer they look different on my phone (brightness and coloring is different). They look better the way I originally edit them on the computer, but this worries me because most people are probably seeing them on their phones. Any suggestions?
  17. How many images do you typically deliver for an engagement session? How about for an 8-hour wedding?
  18. I’ve been busting #bts to improve my website SEO with blogging at least once per week. When I search the locations I have tagged in the photos/on the post, my blog post & none of my photos come up at all on google or in google images. Am I doing something wrong when doing alt text on the photos or is it normal that they don’t come up at all? It’s so frustrating!!
  19. What are you fave podcasts? I haven’t liked any of the new ones I’ve tried!
  20. Can you talk about different FB ads that you have run in that past? What has converted well/what doesn’t do as great?
  21. How do you plan your social media posts? Do you do specific topics on certain days, or is it all based on what you’ve shot recently?
  22. Do you edit/cull/view photos with your computer screen on full brightness? I have found that I edit with full brightness to see all necessary detail, but then if I’m adjusting exposure, the edits can be not intense enough if necessary when it translates onto a phone or something with probably lesser brightness.
  23. How do you determine enough is enough? I had a goal of 5 weddings this year. I have met my goal and currently have meetings set up with another 4 couples. This is my first real wedding season, so how do I know when to say I’m fully booked.
  24. Do you set a limit of wedding per year? Per month? How do you balance your workload in that manner?
  25. Do you offer referral bonuses to your brides and new booking brides?
  26. Best places to submit styled shoots to? What about real weddings?
  27. Where do you shoot on rainy wedding days?
  28. What is the best way to get on a preferred vendor list with venues, bakers, and florists?
  29. If you are heading to a new city/area where you’re not familiar with places to shoot, how do you go about finding a spot for an engagement session?
  30. Do you keep the raw photos after you’re done editing them?
  31. Is there a particular size photo should be for each social media platform? I save as a “small” jpeg after finishing with Lightroom and my photos are never fully as crispy.. especially on Facebook. Your photos are always so clear on every platform!
  32. Best flash lighting setups for receptions.
  33. What is your process of posting pictures on blog/social media? How do you get them from Lightroom (or wherever you edit) to Instagram?
  34. How do you guys go about engagement/weddings out of state regarding travel fees, stay, etc?
  35. I’m curious about how you keep your sessions and to-do’s organized on a daily basis. I find that strictly electronic paperwork is “out of sight, out of mind”, and I like to have paper copies to brainstorm on and take to consultations. What are some of the more efficient ways to organize your bookings, contracts, questionnaires, etc? Thank you!

  39. I used to use Lightroom CC and share photos directly. Now that I use Lightroom classic, I can’t just share directly from mobile. Once you have exported/delivered your photos, where do you share them from? A hard drive on desktop or a cloud based thing or something else?
  40. Can you go through the exact steps to uploading images to Facebook so the quality isn’t destroyed?
  41. When exporting photos from Lightroom to your client’s final gallery, do you export for prints or do you export for sharing on social media?
  42. Have any good stories of getting kicked out of or told to stop shooting in a certain location?
  43. How do you deal with videographers who stand directly in front of/opposite you and are in your shots?
  44. What is the best way to find second shooters/assistants in a new market? Would you recommend being a second shooter first if I am trying to start my business in a new market/country?
  45. What do you do if your couple shows up to an engagement session in unflattering/ill-fitting clothing? I have a style guide that I send to my couples ahead of their sessions.
  46. What tips can you provide on detailed shots of wedding rings? I can’t seem to get decent shots of the rings. Wondering how some people get the rings to look like they are standing up or how they can stack them nicely without them falling out of place.
  47. What is your preferred light set-up for a wedding reception? What about for poorly lit churches?
  48. Is it 100% necessary to have a camera with dual memory cards?
