I don’t know about where you guys live, but where we’re at here in Illinois, we woke up to the prettiest little snowstorm on Sunday morning, and we were a littleee happy about it! I have always ESPECIALLY loved the snow, and you usually won’t catch me complaining much about it being cold! We knew we had to head out for just a few minutes of photos after church on Sunday, and I’m so glad we did. We’ve taken so many cute photos together over the few years we’ve been together that are SO fun to look back on and even to display in our little home! It was so incredibly cold and windy when we were shooting these, but it was worth it for sure. I’m so grateful for a husband who SUGGESTS that we go do things like this (and lets me sit in the warm car while he sets up the camera, let’s be real!). Life with him is just so FUN!
One thing we’ve been working super hard to be consistent about lately is taking Sunday’s completely off of work! I know, I know… what a concept it is to take ONE DAY completely off from work! Ha! For real, though, as a business owner, the work truly never stops (even with two of us!), and it’s incredibly challenging to not work for even one day.
What we’ve realized since we’ve made more of a conscious effort to honor God by NOT being wrapped up in “little” work tasks or shoots on Sunday’s is that when we open our laptops on Monday mornings, we are ten times more motivated and more fired up to do the work we have in front of us for that day. We serve our brides with way more joy, we get through the daily tasks more quickly, and we’re way more refreshed and inspired simply because we chose to step away for a day.
It’s crazy to me that we haven’t been doing this all throughout our hectic fall season of shooting so often! We believed the lie that we need to work 24/7 to succeed and push our business forward. Yes, there are seasons of business where you DO need to hustle and make stuff happen. But there needs to be space for rest, too.
If you’re in the same boat we were, we can promise you that making some margin in your life is so worth it. Even if you have to start with an afternoon of per week (we take Friday afternoons off before wedding weekends, typically!) to start, make it a goal to take a break and step away for a period of time this week.
Who knows… you just might get an early start on your Christmas shopping for your hubby, make a yummy dinner, journal, or watch a Christmas movie or two. Not that we’d know ????
XOXO,
Luke and Caitlin
