If there is one aspect of a wedding day that gets me every. single. time, it’s the daddy-daughter first look! Now, don’t get me wrong… I literally cry my way through most of our wedding days! 😉 You guys… right before we got married, I would literally have to leave the first dances for a minute to pull myself together and Luke would have to cover them for us! I guess that’s just a sign that I’m in the right career, right?! #overlyemotionalengagedgirl Anyways, my goodness do I love when brides make time for this precious few moments on a wedding day! Today, we want to chat with you guys about why we believe this is such an important aspect of your wedding day to carve out a few minutes for.
Table of Contents
1. It involves your dad in your wedding day
While most of our brides have their mom with them throughout the entire getting ready portion of a wedding day, your dad is likely getting ready in a totally different place! Carving out five minutes for a daddy-daughter first look is the perfect way to involve your dad in your wedding day before all the crazy begins. And let’s be real… your dad was the first man you ever loved. You can bet he’s feeling a whole mess of emotions on your wedding morning and that he’d love nothing more than to see his little girl in her wedding dress before almost anyone else does!
2. It’s the perfect time to give him a gift or letter
The daddy-daughter first look is also the perfect time to give your dad that little gift you found for him on Etsy! 😉 Rather than having your brother or your mom deliver it to your dad while you’re getting ready separately, we love it when our brides are able to give their dad a letter or a card in person on the morning of their wedding. It’s so much more special and more emotional, and it even allows you to have a few moments to thank your dad for what he’s meant in your life up until this special day. (Cue the tears, right?!)
3. It creates an opportunity for some special portraits
Great photographs are rooted in deep emotion. We believe that wholeheartedly! That’s why one of our very favorite times to capture photos of our brides and their parents is right after the daddy-daughter first look. Most likely, your mom will have been watching this first look, so she, of course, is going to be totally emotional too! We love getting to capture the sweet hugs, happy tears and once in a lifetime conversations that happen in these quick few minutes after the daddy-daughter first look. Then, we’re mean photographers and ask to take a formal photo or two of our brides with each of their parents! 😉 (On our wedding day, you can totally tell that my dad, my mom and I were all crying right before those pictures were taken!)

Are you doing a first look with your dad? It was one of my favorite moments from our entire wedding day, and it never fails to be one of our favorite moments on our couples’ entire wedding days! We hope that more girls decide to dedicate just 5 or 10 minutes of their wedding morning to making this sweet time happen… we know you won’t regret it!
