Photographers capture memories that last a lifetime. Florists create bouquets to celebrate life and love. Together, these wedding vendors create magic for brides and grooms to forever cherish the day they say ‘I do.’ So, as a wedding florist, I want to share 4 simple tips for photographers to capture the flowers in all their glory. Enjoy!
1. Find the best side of the bouquet!
It’s true, there is always a best side of a bouquet or floral arrangement. If you get a chance, talk to the florist at the time of the delivery and make sure to ask where the front of the arrangement is. The florist will be grateful to know that the flowers will be well represented.
2. Make sure flowers are kept hydrated!
After the flowers are dropped off, it is important that the flowers are well kept to last all day long. Boutonnieres need to be kept refrigerated if possible, and bouquets should stay in an inch or two of water for lasting hydration. If you take pictures prior to the ceremony, make sure flowers get back in water when not in use.
3. Contrast makes the flowers pop!
If photographing the bouquets outside, the images will look natural and typically blend in with seasonal colors. Weddings in summer and fall really benefit from the contrast of the outdoor greenery. If shooting indoors, keep the background neutral to best let the flowers stand out. Simple backgrounds allow the flowers to speak for themselves.
4. You guessed it, lighting!
You’re the photographer, and I am sure you know all about lighting! But on behalf of all flowers, diffused lighting is best. It subtly hides imperfections in the flowers and keeps them looking delicate. Shade or cloud coverage are great options for diffused lighting, and flowers love it too!
