Luke and I realized the other day that it has been one heck of a long time since we shared a personal post here on the blog, friends! We simply haven’t shared what we’ve been up to lately because we’ve been so busy sharing so many engagement sessions and weddings over the past few weeks! So, while we had a little break in our blog schedule, we wanted to share a little life update post with you guys today to share what all we’ve been up to and how we’re doing! 🙂 Here are some of the highlights of our past few months!!
- We both graduated college! ???? Heck yes! Many of you guys might not know that Luke and I were even still in college, and there is a good reason for that. To give y’all the very short explanation of why we’ve chosen to keep our college season of life a little on the down low, the beginning of our business played a big role in that decision. When I (Caitlin) launched my business as a high school student, I had a really hard time with a lot of people not taking me seriously due to my age. I worked super hard to present myself professionally online and on social media… so much so that I had no problems attracting the right clients for what was then 90% a lifestyle and portrait business.
However, once I started marketing to brides and making goals to shoot mostly weddings, I would get all the way up to the point of meeting people in person and signing the contract, and people would turn me down because they realized how old I was. To me, back then, that didn’t make any sense, since I had earned their trust in everything else aside from my age. But, it spooked some people, and ever since I decided to just keep my age and the fact that we were still in school a little quieter. 😉 A bigger blog post on this is coming soon, and we’re excited to share more of our hearts on this! - We visited Alabama! If we’re friends on Instagram (if you’re not, we totally should be!!), I’m sure this is no surprise… we shared the heck out of that trip, let’s be real! 😉 Earlier this month, we looked at each other and randomly decided to take a trip to Alabama for a week! We worked half days while we were there, and we explored the area and photographed some incredible couples throughout the rest of the days.
We soaked up a ton of family time, lots of time to talk and dream, some walks on the beach, and of course some shopping, Starbucks runs and frozen yogurt, too! ???? It was such a blast, and it was so refreshing to get to visit somewhere new and shoot somewhere that has more interesting natural elements than big trees and cornfields, let’s be honest! 😉 Head on over here, here, and here to see the shoots we got to photograph while we were in Alabama!
- Wedding season is in full swing! From this coming weekend through August, we’re shooting weddings every weekend but one. And we could not be more excited! However, one of our goals for this year was to balance work and life more. 2016 was a year of hard work and hustle as we worked to take our business full time, and that required that the majority of our time be spent working and pushing our business forward.
While we’re still hustling away this year and dreaming big for this little company of ours, we’re now doing so within strict office hours, and y’all, it is the BEST. ???? We’re also setting healthy boundaries and stopping work for the day early on days where we have engagement sessions scheduled for night time, and we’re taking half days on the days before weddings to give us time to spend together and refuel before being on our feet and on the job for 8+ hours the next day! - We’ve had lots to celebrate over the past few months! Besides our graduations, back in March, we celebrated Luke’s birthday right after I returned home from the workshop I attended in Dallas (you can read all about that adventure right here!). Last week, we celebrated my birthday, and in the middle of June, we get to celebrate our very first anniversary! ???? Year one of marriage has been everything and nothing we expected it to be. Most people told us the first year would be horrible, hard, and stressful… but it wasn’t. There were hard moments and harder seasons, but we honestly had a wonderful and blessed first year of marriage, and for that, we are incredibly grateful.
We can’t believe our first year as a married couple is already almost over, but we’re so excited to commemorate our first year with an anniversary session next week and a little trip just the two of us sometime in June! We both are quick to say that we’re married to our best friend and that our strong friendship is one of the things that makes marriage the best thing ever, and we never want to take that for granted. We’re immensely grateful for each one of you who has come alongside us as we’ve continued to grow and invest in our business, and we’re so excited to see what the rest of this summer and this year holds.
